You Gotta Be Kidding Me!

Hey there!  The last few days have been.....well....interesting......and this post may be a bit random and discombobulated....but just hang on and enjoy the ride!

The silliness all started on Friday when I received a very nice e-mail from Moda saying that we're no longer allowed to call this fabric by the original name they gave it which is Hershey.....
The Hershey company didn't like the fact that there was a fabric named Hershey so it is now named Chocolate.  Seriously?!  Seriously???!!!  That's tooooo funny!  I know companies have to protect their name and trademark and logo and all that stuff......but Seriously?!  I don't think anyone is going to confuse a brown fabric with a chocolate bar.  And apparently the Hershey Company is watching me to make sure I no longer use their name.  LOL!  Don't they have better things to do?!  I feel all big and fancy and important because Hershey is watching me!

Anyway.....I've started my own chocolate protest and I'd love for you to join me.  All you have to do is eat ANY other brand of chocolate as often as you want.....Nestle, Ghiradelli, Godiva, etc.  Isn't that a fabulous protest?

Then....on Saturday morning I woke up feeling like I'd been hit by a ton of bricks and I still feel sick and I think it's now four days later.  I don't really know for sure....my mind is a little foggy.  Anyway, I decided I needed a little chocolate therapy and I desperately wanted a Reese's Peanut Butter cup.  Do you know where this is going?  Guess who make Reese's???!!!   Noooooooo!!!!!  Oh the horror!!!!  So now I need to head over to my Pinterest board for "Sweet Treats" and hunt down all those homemade Reese's recipes I've been hoarding and make my own version of Peanut Butter and Chocolate Heavenly-ness.

But wait....my weekend gets better.....our AC AND our internet weren't working for most of the weekend.  And when I finally felt strong enough to pull myself out of bed on Sunday afternoon to do some sewing, I spilled tea all over my beloved Granny Square Quilt.  Nooooooo!!!  But the good news is I think it survived it's time in the Emergency Room.....also known as the kitchen sink.  Here it is in Recovery.....also known as a drying rack......
And I've just gotta say.....if you're ever feeling sick and need someone to take care of you....Mr. Sew Fab is not the man for the job - LOL!  No offense to guys but if I said "he's such a guy" would you know what I mean?  Here's a conversation between me and Mr. Sew Fab...

Me:  You're a terrible caregiver.
Mr. Sew Fab:  I know.
Me:  What would happen if I ever got really, seriously, long term sick?
Mr. Sew Fab:  We'd hire someone to take care of you.

And another conversation:

Me:  I still feel really crummy.  I can barely move.
Mr. Sew Fab:  Hmmmmm......anyway.....can you make some of that Southwestern Orzo Salad for lunch?

And my favorite:

Mr. Sew Fab:  We all can't be good at everything.  We all have our skills.  And you're gonna be really glad you're with me if there's ever a Zombie Apocalypse.

I guess he does have a valid point with that one.

And he is being a good hunter-gatherer and making sure I have food while I don't feel well enough to cook.....
And I do have some awesome news to share!  Emma had a growth removed from her leg last week and I got the call yesterday that it was benign and harmless!  Yay!!!!!  Go Emma, go!
Right now I'm going to go curl up in a ball like Emma, eat some chocolate and take a little nap.  And my plan for tomorrow is to avoid flaming and exploding objects, work on my Granny Square Quilt and get lots of rest.....Hope you all have a wonderful 4th of July!

Happy Sewing,
Jenny

P.S.  I'll be back with the July Giveaway soon!

P.P.S.S.  Just for the record....Mr. Sew Fab is a great guy and he's doing his best!  Our conversations were more joking around and not so serious!!!

I hear ya on the "H" word - They pulled their plant out of our area a few years back and moved it to Mexico.... LOTS of us won't eat that kind of chocolate at all anymore! And yes - pinterest and other recipe sites have kept me alive! Hope you're feeling better really soon!

Hershey's tastes like wax anyway. After you've had some real swiss chocolate you'll never eat a Hershey bar again. I make homemade PB cups and they are much better. I just use semi sweet choco chips and I think they make it taste even better. :D

My husband is not a very good caregiver either. Luckily I have a daughter with the nurture gene so she takes care of me when I'm sick. ;)

I am so sorry for you Hershey curse and who knew they would stalk fabric, just who knew. I hope you feel better soon.

These big companies and important people should really get over themselves. When our daughter was 4 and was traveling 50 miles one way for her chemo daily we would always pass an old barn on the highway with Snoopy and the little yellow bird on the roof. She loved it and knew we were about half there. Then one day, painted on the roof was "dog-gone" and no dog or bird. The Peanuts owner or whatever didn't like that dog and bird being painted on this barn rood in the middle of nowhere so made these people take it off of the roof of this old, old barn. Hershey, Peanuts, what next - I hate to think!!!

Get better fast and shake that Hershey curse:)

I can understand their viewpoint. Look what happened to the word "velcro". It is no longer a copyrighted name because it got used so much. If the color brown started getting called "Hershey" all the time, then they would lose their copyright on that name.

Glad to hear that Emma's tumor is benign! Awesome news!

I think Moda should call it Milk Chocolate and not just Chocolate. On my monitor it is the exact color of a Hershey's Kiss. I don't think Hershey's was a great name for the fabric anyway. It doesn't do it justice. The fabric is way better than the chocolate!

I agree with Samantha...the real swiss stuff is what ya want anyway! The Swiss know their chocolate!!

I'd call the fabric Truffle or cocoa powder or milk chocolate or something like that. Anytime I see that fabric I'm going to want some chocolate...but it will be something other than Hershey's brand. I love Lindt!

I am pretty sure I married your husband's brother (G)!!! Ok...I am joining the Hershey boycott ( though it is almost as hard as NOT buying fabric). Feel better soonest. Happy and SAFE 4th!!!!

If you have never had real Belgian chocolate, you have never really tasted chocolate. There is NOTHING this side of the Atlantic that compares. Nothing. Nada. Zip.

(Actually, I think Hershey is one of the worst that is made here in the USA. Ghiradelli has them beat, hands down.)

Sure do love Chick Fil A, though!!!

Yes - Seriously!!!??? -- i would think they would WANT the hershey name on a chocolate-colored fabric - good advertising and people would be hungry for a choc. bar or candy -- i couldn't believe it when you said peanut butter cups were hershey and you had to boycott. as your mother - i know your previous, and never again, obsession with the orange package.

and you and john are funny - since you are such a good caregiver - the best - he should have picked up a few tricks from you -- tell him you are going to treat him exactly the same the next time he is sick.

happy fourth - and safe and well!!
you stay in - let john go on the jet ski or whatever, okay??

love to you all - but especially my Emma!!!

Yeah companies take their tradenames/marks very seriously - its how they make their millions after all. :)

I know about men as caretakers - I'm disabled and my husband is my prime caretaker. Actually he is really good at it and manages some thoughtful moments too - a big difference over when I wasn't disabled! At least when our spouse is the one that takes care of us we are more comfortable with them than with a stranger.

Some people make their quilt and then deliberately soak it in tea (weak I believe) to give it an aged distressed look. I shudder when I think of it because I know how long it takes me to make a quilt and then to soak it in tea! Whatever floats your boat I guess.

Hope you feel better. Hopefully, whatever you have will go visit someone else soon.

I recently had a recommendation for "Chcolate Buds" from Wilbur, an online company. I haven't ordered them yet, but it is said they rival Godiva, which is my favorite!I bet Godiva would LOVE to have a fabric choice named for them! Free advertising!
